SOUTHERN ITALY HISTORICAL MANSIONS
Masseria San Domenico (Brindisi)
The Masseria
San Domenico is an ancient watchtower dating back to the XVth century, built
on the coast between Bari and Brindisi. Here the Knights of Malta defended
themselves against the Ottoman attack. Careful restoration, conducted in full
respect of ancient forms and with original materials, has produced a refined
hotel whose magical atmosphere brings back to the history of the region - the
meeting point of Eastern and Mediterranean cultures. Against azure sky and
sea, the white profile of stone stands out, set in its thousand-year-old
olive grove, in the salt water of an irregularly shaped swimming-pool broken
by rocks and plants. The Restaurant of Masseria San Domenico serves
specialities of Pugliese cuisine, accompanied by a wide selection of the best
wines the region produces.
Eremo
della Giubiliana (Ragusa)
The East land of a different Sicily - in the
Hyblean highlands, among carob trees and dry stone walls, the sea in the
background, always present in Sicilian landscape.
Situated in
a strategic position, in the intersection of ancient medieval paths, the
"Eremo della Giubiliana" dominates this magnificent territory.
Built in the 15th century as a fortified convent and used by the knights of
Malta in the first half of the 16th century, the "Eremo" was
acquired in the 18 century by the Nifosì family whose last heir, Vincenza
Jolanda Nifosì, decided to open it to the guests.
The
atmosphere is that of an ancient and warm country estate, with a refined
cuisine, typical of the Ragusa highlands aristocracy, and a cellar housed in
the medieval vault. Airfield with custom services, planes 3/5 seats and
cruisers for excursions.
Palazzo del Capo (Cosenza)
Built in
various phases, from the XI to the XVIII century, the Palazzo, the secular
residence of the Dukes of De Aloe, declared the property of "noteworthy
artistic and historic interest" in 1986, has recently been opened to the
public after a wise and accurate restoration which provided a new meeting room
with truly special characteristics. The Palazzo, suspended between an
unlimited expansion of blue sea and a green glimpse of the surrounding
mountains, is a real surprise for those who wish to feel the joy of living
the warm rhythm of a holiday. It is an irresistible invitation to stop and
enjoy a long tradition of elegance and prestige and to live again the
fascination of the culture, the art and the hospitality of bygone times in an
atmosphere of rare splendor.
Castel di
Luco (Ascoli Piceno)
An official document (bolla) of Pope Leo IX dated 1052 demonstrates the
existence of this rare and unique castle of the Piceno area which still
retains its medieval structure intact. Castel di Luco is immersed in the
quiet of the woods and a simple country atmosphere. After climbing a flight
of stairs carved into a rock leading to the entrance door, you will find
Laura and Francesco, the two youthful owners, who also established 3 suites
in the village bellow the castle, ready to welcome you to their friendly
residence.
They will
invite you to taste the genuine flavors of the typical cuisine, and to
experience the emotion and the enthusiasm of those who live in such a unique
setting, devoting themselves to its restoration.
